SunSpot is a blend of proprietary turf-type bermudagrass varieties developed for turf applications including residential/commercial lawns, sport turf, reclamation/erosion control and recreation areas. Key characteristics of Sunspot are excellent cold tolerance and improved frost tolerance resulting in a bermudagrass blend that will perform better in cooler climates and is more resistant to winter damage. Other characteristics of Sunspot are excellent heat and drought tolerance, extreme durability, superior wear tolerance, improved leaf texture and a uniform, dense turf. SunSpot is adapted to most areas of climatic zones 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and will grow in a wide range of soil types and soil pH. Optimum soil pH is 5.5 to 7.0.

SunSpot will do best on well-drained soils in areas that receive full sunlight. SunSpot should be planted in a firm seedbed at a depth of 1/8 to 1/4 inch, when soil temperatures are consistently above 65 degrees F. Good soil moisture needs to be maintained during establishment with frequent but light irrigation. Seedlings should start to emerge in 10 to 21 days with full coverage attained in 4 to 6 weeks under optimum conditions. As seedlings develop, decrease irrigation frequency but increase the amount of water applied. Follow recommended, regional watering guidelines as turf matures. Mowing can begin when the grass is 1/3 taller than the desired mowing height. To maintain a healthy bermudagrass lawn, try not to remove more than 1/3 of the leaf blade per mowing. In areas where winter injury is a concern, planting should be done 60-90 days before first frost.

Dormant bermudagrass can be overseeded with a cool season grass such as Chipmate Perennial Ryegrass Blend for year-round green color. Overseeding is not recommended on new turf less than 6 to 8 months old.
